Introduction to Educational Technology
My impression of the education technology field is that it is one that has a direct impact on how students learn, teachers teach, and it is everchanging and evolving. The Educational technology field, frequently mentioned as EdTech, is a field that encompasses the use of technology to improve and advance the progression of teaching, learning, and educational management. It incorporates the development, application, and integration of various digital tools, software, hardware, and platforms to support and optimize educational practices and experiences.
The main goal of EdTech is to make education more engaging, effective, accessible, and efficient. It pursues to leverage technology's capabilities to address the assorted learning needs of students and empower educators with different innovative teaching methods. Educational technology can be applied in many different settings including traditional classrooms, online learning environments, and blended learning approaches.
I learned many different things from this course. For starters I learned about many of the technologies that are available to be used by teachers to help improve their student’s educational experiences. Some of these technologies include YouTube, Canva, Wix.com, and the list goes on. Many of these software platforms help children understand the concepts they are learning and truly visualize them, allowing them to fully understand the meaning behind them. I plan to apply this knowledge when it comes to the job that I am starting next semester. I will be working with kids after school, and I can use some of the tools I learned about in this class to help them understand the concepts they may be struggling with inside of the classroom. I will be able to help enhance the work that the kids are doing during the school day to help them connect these lessons to the real world and allow them to use these concepts in their everyday lives. I also could see the things I learned in this class coming in handy when it comes to the way that students with disabilities receive an education. Educational technology plays a crucial role in improving the educational experiences and outcomes of students with disabilities. It offers a range of tools and solutions that can address the unique challenges these students may face, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the learning process. Tools such as accessibility features and personalization utensils can help serve those who struggle to learn some things compared to others. Another tool is multi-sensory options which can enable multi-sensory learning experiences, which are beneficial for students with certain learning disabilities. For example, interactive simulations and visual aids can help support concepts and improve understanding.
